is it ok to feed them ice cream?

many dogs are lactose intolerant so they can not eat ice cream but i read somewhere over the net that a leading dog food company and a major ice cream company are formulating an ice cream sandwich treat for dogs. It is dairy based and have the same texture of ice cream and contains only 1% lactose also it has added protein and no sugar. I just hope it will be available here in the Philippines

Dogs are lactose intolerant, so feeding them icecream is not the best idea. Instead, give them a nice healthy dog treat, human food is for humans and Not for dogs, it can be potentially harmful to them so please don´t give in to those cute little puppy eyes, they´re better off with some dog food.

I wouldn´t do this myself as my great-grandmother gave her dogs diabetes by giving them food high in sugar, but I guess if you do it as a very special treat. In another forum it´s mentioned that dogs aren´t built to handle a lot of fat in their food, but cats are, so...
Fortunately Triton isn´t interested in human food. He won´t touch chips, lollies & I have to hide veggies in meat. Much like a child who doesn´t like his veggies!

since we have owned laddy (8 months) he has had ice cream twice (only plain) as the chocolate is for me & me only, he will have at least 1 ice cube a day if he wants more he just looks at the freezer. I will let him as many ice cubes as he wants as it is only frozen water

Personally i think a small amount of plain ice cream every now and then is ok. And by a small amount I mean, like one spoon full. I give Daph that as a treat, probably one a month at most, we don´t have ice cream often. I would never give her any type of flavoured stuff though, too much crap in it.

I love ice cream but I´m lactose intolerant (granted I´m not a dog but..)... I really can understand how painful it is to eat a milk based product when your body can´t tolerate it, if you knew what it does you would never give your dog ice cream.

I remember treating my german shepherds mcdonalds plain sundaes before too and they really love it.

James has very like ice-cream. When he was a puppy was having round ice-cream diarrhoea, now he adores it.
