United Dogs has grown into a great International Forum. Its very success, though, has given rise to a bit of a problem, and a wonderful opportunity.
The problem is the language barrier. The opportunity is to overcome it!
Did you know, for example, that in England I am a dog; in France I am a ´chien´ (pronounced ´shan´), in Spain, and lots of other countries, I am a ´perro´ (pronounced just like that), and in Portugal and Brazil I am a ´cao´ (pronounced, much to my horrow and amazement ´cow´)?
Some of us are students of what, to us, is a foreign language. How much easier it is when the subject matter of what we are reading is something which interests us. In my puppy days we were taught all about ´the pen of my aunt´ - and how ´my postilion has been struck by lightening´. How boring! Now, thanks to United Dogs we can learn about much more interesting things - such as ´I found my dog in a rescue centre´ or ´My bone is buried under the bed!"
Everytime we get a doggy-mail in Spanish or in Tagalog we are getting not just a strange message, but a chance to work at it to discover its meaning, learn a bit of somebody else´s language, and also to help somebody learn a bit of ours, in an interesting and easy way!
Thank you United Dogs!
